How Psychology Can Help Your Performance: The Science of Sport Psychology

The field of sport, exercise and performance psychology has discovered great ways to improve the physical aspects of sport by training the brain to enhance the skills.  This presentation will look at the relatively new science of sport psychology and the different techniques that world class athletes utilized to improve the mental part of participation.  Sport psychologists teach athletes to use visualization, meditation, relaxation, goal setting, concentration improvement, and restructured thinking to help the athletes get the most out of their sport experience.  These skills have been used with a wide range of performers including athletes, exercise participants, military, first responders, CEOs, students, dancers and artists.  The discussion will center on what the techniques are and the science behind why they work, while allowing audience members to try the skills themselves.

Dr. Vincent Granito, Jr., professor in the LCCC Social Sciences and Human Services Division, will host the forum, How Psychology Can Help Your Performance: The Science of Sport Psychology, in LC 209 on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, during the noon hour, 12-1. Enjoy light refreshments during this next installment of the Bass Library’s Focus on Faculty series. Again the Library will be highlighting the special talents and contributions of our outstanding LCCC faculty.
